Architecture in the Alpine region: Everywhere the same, or not? Architects talk about the experiences they have made with building abroad.

A Network across all Mountains

Alpitecture is a communication platform in the overlapping segments of “Alps”, “technology” and “architecure”. The name of the platform also melts the terms “alps”, technologies” and “architecture” into one.

alpitecture code has been around since 2009, where architects from the Alpine countries come together to discuss the peculiarities of architecture in the Alpine region..

For the first time, on May, 23 the one-day alpitecture summit takes place parallel to the platform – together with mapolis AG as a media partner. he congress addresses architects, investors and interested experts from Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, who wish to get to know more on the three topics of “Alps”, “Technology” and “Architecture”. This time, the participants are about to discuss the topic of “Transnational Projects in alpine Architecture and beyond”. The event within the framework of the alpitecture-code platform was suggested by ap35 GmbH from Ulm and initiated by the Export Organisation Südtirol, der Handelskammer Bozen (EOS). SIt is sponsored by companies from South Tyrol.

Same same but different

Working abroad is not uncommon for architects, with a rising tendency. The requirements, peculiarities and climate conditions do not differ much between the Alpine countries. This makes customers think about giving projects to architects from neighboring countries when the designs look promising.

But despite all similarities concerning the conditions, architects sometimes have to face various challenges: Each country has its own peculiarities in terms of communication, e.g. with craftsmen, and also its special procedures others can sometimes not comprehend and look through. Not least architects from abroad compete with local colleagues and need to ask themselves whether these would have been just as suitable for the project.

On the congress well-known contributors talk about their experiences with architectural processes abroad and point out the difficulties that may occur. Aiming at making architecture abroad a success for all those who are involved, alpitecture summit 2012 intends to deal with possible problems and questions, create synergies and establish networks.

The program of alpitecture summit 2012 comprises speeches with an evening event. Included are entry into the exhibition “New Architecture in South Tyrol 2006-2012”, catering and a shuttle service.

Registration for the congress can be done online at www.alpitecture.com.
