Compact Office Block
Since their founding twenty years ago Hamburg architects Bothe Richter Teherani have realized almost fifty projects in the Hanseatic city. Among them buildings such as the Doppel-XX office high-rise, Hamburg police headquarters, Elbberg-Campus and the spectacular Dockland “office ship”, all helped define Hamburg’s skyline.

Towards the East the ensemble is completed by a five-story connection building at the border to the neighboring buildings. At the core of Süd-Carré a slightly raised garden yard has been created, connected with the outside through a flight of steps and open-sided story.
Organic Wattle Work
In order to distinguish between old and new, BRT have given the eight-story disk of new buildings an outer façade emphasizing modern detailing. In a clear contrast to the old building from 1962 with its horizontal window ribbons, they have designed a rhythmically structured high-gloss perforated façade, taking turns in concavely and convexly curved stainless steel ribbon elements. The three-dimensional overlappings of the individual elements allow the ribbons to supplement each other to form an organic wattle work, horizontally as well as vertically. The unusual, but basically very simple setup enables not only plasticity and depth, but also allows dynamic reflections and light effects on the façade. A well-made fill-in breaking up the monotony of the neighboring office buildings without pushing itself to the fore.
