Living surrounded by art

Quail Hill

The house Quail Hill combines living with a private art gallery.

The architects of Bates Masi Architects received the order to build a dwelling house for a family, who had a considerable art collection. The house should serve the family in future as both a dwelling house and a private gallery at the same time. Thus, the architects were challenged by the task to create a living area that harmonises with the works of artists like Vik Muniz.

Traditional elements

The house Quail Hill is situated at Amagansett, in the US American federal state of New York. The basic form of the dwelling house comprises a triangle and several rectangles. Some elements of the structure like the saddle roof, a massive fireplace, and the façade of wooden shingles are characteristic for the traditional design of the houses in the east Long Island. The massive appearing fireplace anchors the building optically in the property. But actually it consists of thin concrete panels, and is thus much less massive than it appears to be.

All for the art

The building shows some interesting details. The stairs at the entrance area are enclosed by a wall consisting of two panes of glass. The cavity between these two panes is filled with mussels. Thus, the wall appears from a distance like a translucent stone.

The living- and eating area stretches over the entire ground floor, and, in height, over both floors. The architects wanted to provide sufficient space for the large-scale pictures, and made the living room a gallery area a the same time. To be able to carry the heavy and large pictures, the walls have partly been made up of prefabricated concrete elements.

Inside and outside

The design concept intensely deals with perception: Slightly staggered walls with narrow windows provide the pictures with indirect light. Elsewhere, large windows create a connection to the outside area. There, a terrace and a swimming pool can be found. A wall demarcates the property to ensure privacy.

Conclusion

The building has a beautiful façade, and interiors that meet the requirements. Only the massive fireplace seems to be completely out of place.

Living in such a wonderful house would be for most people like a dream come true, everything is just perfect. To create such a setting, your garden must be very well groomed, you'll find sod for sale in Denver and the rest is easy to achieve, some exotic plants and trees are needed too, after completion you can sit back and enjoy the view.

This house is amazing, the owners have now the perfect place to display their impressive paintings. Since the interior walls are plain white, they could have chosen a darker bedroom furniture as well for the living area. All this combined with some colorful accessories, would have showcased the paintings even better.

The persons who have this chance, to live surrounded by art, are very lucky. For sure, these houses are also eco-friendly built. Therefore, people who live in them should search eco-friendly services to maintain and clean them. For example, the Westerkamp's Dry Carpet Cleaning uses the latest environmentally friendly technology to clean any type of carpet.

This type of architecture is actually an eye-candy for those who really loves art or people with an abstract taste. Like me, i find it pretty awesome. I love how it is designed from the outside, and i assume that the interiors are also great. datpiff promotion
